Catching Up

It’s been a few days since I wrote, mostly since I’ve been busy with a couple of things offline – between Halloween and schedule conflicts for the wife and me, it’s been a very full boat.  Yesterday and today, I’ve been home rather than at work, since the Monster had the days off of school for an in-service day and then the election.

But one thing that’s been going on in the interim has been the issue of getting the Monster further toilet trained. Continue reading

Accidents Happen

It’s been a while since I’ve had a post dedicated solely to toileting, I think, since the Monster’s made it to a plateau in his toilet training.  He’s now, largely, going to the bathroom on his own when we’re home, but more often than not, he’s only doing so for having to pee.  We’re not up – dependably – to him making it to the toilet for poop.

And therein lies the problem. Continue reading

Baby Steps Forward

So, followers of my tweet feed already know that my family took a day-trip yesterday – I’ll write a review tomorrow on that.  However, most notably, we made it through most of the day without a bathroom accident on the Monster’s part.

In both cases, though, there was a definite step forward in a minor way – he verbally told us that he had to go. Continue reading

Pull Up Your Pants!

Setting aside the occasional accident, things are getting better on the toileting front of late.

We’ve gotten back to the point that he is, by and large, avoiding accidents during the day while he was home on break.  We’ve had a few messes – and we suspect those were mostly because he wasn’t feeling well and not quite communicative about the matter – but most of the time, we’ve either gotten a verbal insistence that it’s bathroom time or he’s given non-verbal cues. Moving Backwards

This weekend’s been a little bit rough, really, on getting things moving in the right direction.

We had been, for the most part, to the point that we could have the Monster in regular “big boy” underwear during the day.  He’s only occasionally had an accident – more often than not, he’s told us when he needs to go to the bathroom, or at least he’s signaled it by touching himself, and he’s made it through most of the last few months of school in a similar fashion.

So far this weekend, we’ve had two accidents, with a third at school during the week. Continue reading

Lack of Progress

There’s not been a lot of progress on the toileting front, to be honest, since the last time I wrote about it.  We’ve been working at trying to get the Monster more “prepared” to go by himself… but every time we think we have progress, we take a few giant steps backwards from the feel of it. Continue reading

Potty Progress

With the rare exception, we’re getting through most days these days without a single accident.

It’s nice progress – the Monster is slowly but surely getting a grip on telling us when he needs to go to the bathroom, and seems to largely be holding it until appropriate opportunities when we’re out and about and he’s in his cloth underwear.  I can’t remember – barring mornings where I’ve not brought a pair of briefs downstairs – the last time we felt a need to put him in a pull-up outside of bedtime. Diagnosis: Poop

It’s been a while since I’ve written about the Monster’s efforts at toilet training.

Most of the time, we’re going alright these days.  He’s actually transitioned to cloth underwear during the day, and he’s more often successful than not at warning us that he needs a bathroom break, or holding it until we can get him to one.  I can’t really recall the last time we had a daytime accident, save for when it’s felt like he’s done it on purpose.  (Mostly when I send him to his room for getting to ‘3’ in the 1-2-3 Magic system.) The Big Switch

We’re about a week out from school now, and that means getting the Monster’s list of supplies together before he gets into the classroom.  Most of the items are the run-of-the-mill stuff you’d see for any kid going into kindergarten – crayons, glue sticks, paper towels, things like that.

One of the things that’s not on his list this year are pull-ups. Continue reading
