You get a good streak going, and then something comes along to throw a kink in it all…
On Wednesday and Thursday, save for the (very rare) little trickle, the Monster succeeded in not having an accident – he’s even been getting through the night dry. To me, this is a massive success, and is perhaps the longest single streak we’ve had since we started trying to toilet train.
Still, a lot of this has been from us picking up on his non-verbal cues that he might be ready to go to the bathroom, rather than his saying to us that he needed to go. (This is the school district’s interpretation of the IEP requirement as well.) Dry pants are dry pants, and the occasional self-catch-and-hold isn’t going to kill you as an adult… well, not that badly at least.
And then there’s today. I had to go out early this morning and came back to hear the Wet-Stop shrieking already… and discovered that he had soiled himself. This was then followed by a hit and another miss…
It’s two steps forward and one back constantly with the toileting. On the positive, though, he does seem to be holding it better once he does start to go, and waits to get taken to the bathroom to finish up. Even on his misses, he’s still finishing in the toilet.
At least we’ll have something to talk about when we go for therapy next week…
